The American Revolution fought for independence against the 13 colonies. America was able to win and gain independence. This victory was made possible by all the people who fought in the war. Among the American soldiers fought African-descended soldiers who at the time faced a lot of racism but were made to fight in the war or some would voluntarily fight in the hope of showing that they were good Americans too and deserved the same rights.
Creating a New Country When creating a nation in the United States the foundations were to have some sort of rules but also freedom among the nation. Freedom was guaranteed with thefirst 10 amendments in the constitution called the Bill of Rights. This gave people the right to freedom of speech and the 5 under that one, the right to bare arms, not need to house soldiers, warrants (for police arrest), the right to stay silent, rights in civil cases, cruel and unusual punishment, the right to mentioned are kept by the police, and lastly state rights. The Constitution also said that all men were created equal but that only seemed to apply to white American males because people of color and women were not treated equally until many years later
Expanding the United States Territories shows how America got its borders but focuses on how America expanded. It was able to get its borders and territories because of the Mexican-American war and also by purchasing Louisiana which added territory to America. One other way that was used to expand was by using the idea of manifest destiny. Americans thought it was their God-given right to be able to take over whatever land they wanted and it didn’t matter if there were already people settled there they would remove those people and settle themselves there.
Indigenous Americans are people who have been here way before American people but were still forced off their land by them. They had stewardship of the land and were making it used for future generations until they came. The Thanksgiving holiday was supposed to be a thankful holiday full of food and thankfulness but there was no mention of food, pumpkins, or even pilgrims. The holiday is an attempt to cover up the real history of the United States.
How to heal: The way we can heal from all the horrible parts of history is by first acknowledging those parts of history that happened. When we don’t acknowledge and just erase those parts of history it ends up hurting the groups of people who were gravely hurt as well as their communities. The second the we can do is give reparations to those people who where gravely hurt and communities suffer from the negative effects of American history. And third we can listen to the voices of those people when they ask for help. All three of these things will have a positive impact on all the seven generations to come and more generations after seven. The decision of acknowledging and educating yourself about their history will never harm them it shows that you care about them and don’t want to erase that part of history. Giving reparations also won’t harm them this is to help with the unemployment rates and poverty rates. And lastly listening to the people of theirs communities will always make sure that they know that they are herded and no ignored.
